Maloney wins in Donegal
Declan Maloney travelled to Donegal for the first under 14’s race of the season. The race consisting of 4 laps of very hilly circuit, wet, cold and windy conditions was no deterrent to Declan.
Race report by Declan:
The race was neutralised for the first 2km. I decided to go when the flag dropped and myself and PJ Doogan kept attacking all the way to the first climb. When we looked back there were only 5 riders left so we kept the pace going. On the 2nd lap Harry Doe made an attack going up the climb proving what a strong rider he is. I followed him, leaving just the two of us to battle it out going up the climb. I then decide to try an attack to see if he could come with me. But a gap appeared and the race car came between us. I knew then I had made a gap on Harry. With 11km to go I kept going and the race car kept me informed the gap was growing all the time. After a long and hard winters training I rode to my first road win of the season.
I would like to thank Harry and PJ for making it a hard and aggressive race. Thanks also to Errigal CC and the marshals for a great day.
Congratulations Declan on another great result.
