
Weekend Racing Results
Weekend Race Report by Keith O’Connell (08-09th March 2014)
Last Sunday 9th March Westport Covey Wheelers had no less than 31 racers in various age groups racing in Loughrea and Limerick.
Youths:
The youths had 12 in various categories including Shane O’Malley and Finbar McLaughlin in the U10’s. In the U12’s Keith Mulroy finished 5th, Malcom McEvilly 6th, Nathan Brown and Orla Harrisson 1st Girl. Declan Maloney cruised home to 1st place in the U14’s while Emer Harrisson performed well also. in the U16’s Ben Walsh and Eoghan McLaughlin were 4th and 5th respectively with Oisin Gannon riding well for his first event and Melissa Walsh finished 1st girl in that category.
Seniors:
David Walsh secured a spot on Saturday for the Connacht Team Time Trial squad outperforming club TT specialists Ollie Whyte and Noel Mulroy. He continued his run of good from by taking 5th in the A4 race in Loughrea on Sunday and now moves upto A3.
Ann Marie Egan stole the show at the weekend taking 1st in the ladies A4 race and was backed up by her team mate Siobhan O’Malley taking 3rd. Siobhan was narrowly pipped for 2nd having dragged the rest of the field behind her for the last 20km after she had previously dropped a chain.
In the main Loughrea race the seniors were outclassed by Charles Prendergast who stormed to victory.
In Limerick Michael Flynn rode a smart race over 95km and infiltrated the main break which was only caught with 3km to go. Ger Corcoran and James McGreevy performed well finishing 10th and 11th respectively.
