Connaught development training race (+gallery)
The Connaught development training race a great success. There was a big turn out today on the first training race of the season. Nearly 50 riders turned out for the 86 km spin which consisted of 2 laps of the Ballinrobe, Headford, Shrule, Kilmaine and back into Ballinrobe. There was a good turn from the Westport Covey Wheelers as well, 13 in all. The spin started out a bit jumpy as all riders were getting a feel for the road after the winter break. The race settled down in the second lap with a race average speed 34 kpm. The roads were fine despite the frosty conditions over the last few days. The route was generally flat with a couple of short drags. There was a couple of injections of pace starting from Shrule in the second lap with the group splitting along the way, this in turn lead to a bunch gallop at the end with about 15 riders. Overall the day was a great success, with thanks to Mark Quigley (organiser) and all the marshals who helped bring the day together. The next one of these Connaught development days will be held in Bohola on the 13th of next month. [nggallery id=4]
