Leisure
Westport cycling club participates in all forms of non-competitive leisure cycling right throughout the year.
As well as our regular Sunday morning cycle we also have Wednesday evening races or leisure cycle races during the summer months and also on Saturday mornings so every one should be catered for.
All these cycles are graded to cater for the different levels of fitness and the longer spins will have opt out routes for those not feeling up to the extra miles.
The club also participates in many leisure, charity and sportive events both locally and nationally throughout the year like the Croi Corrib Cycle in and around Galway & the An Post series in different parts of the country.
Leisure events are provided over a wide range of distances ranging from local fun cycles or family fun cycles two of which we ran last year right up to challenges such as the Ring of Kerry or the Wicklow 200, most of these events have several distances to choose from which will suite most levels. These are well run events and are a good challenge and a great way of meeting other club members.
We also have the great western greenway which is a safe traffic free walk and cycle way stretching 18km from Newport to Mulranny. This will extend to Westport and Achill and is due for completion early this year 2011, which will be ideal for all the family to cycle on.
