Meet the 2015 Rás Team
We’ve decided to keep track of our preparation for the An Post Ras 2015 which will be visiting Mayo in May by putting together a blog. This will shed some light on what it takes to make it to the start line of the race, introduce the Mayo.ie Rás team and share their thoughts, hopes or worries for the race.
So! Who are the Mayo.ie Rás Team… well it’s a calibration between Westport Covey Wheelers CC and neighbouring Castlebar CC. The team is generously supported by Mayo.ie – Visit – Connect – Invest.
The team will consist of 5 riders, with the hopefuls in training since last October getting the miles in through the cold, wet winter months. We are currently putting in the tough training and early season racing that will get us there in good shape.
What exactly is the An Post Rás you may ask? It’s the pinnacle of bike racing in Ireland, a 1180 kilometre race that take place over eight days. It has 21 categorised climbs and is raced by visiting professional teams and amateur county riders like ourselves.
It gets underway on Sunday May 17th in Dunboyne, Co. Meath with stage finishes in Carlow, Tipperary Town, Bearna Co. Galway, Newport on Wednesday May 20th (passing through Leenane, Louisburg and Westport), Ballina on Thursday May 21st (passing through Mulranny, Ballycroy, Bangor, Ceide Fields and Crossmolina), Ballinamore Co. Leitrim, Drogheda Co. Louth and finishing up in Skerries on Sunday May 24th.
Right, that’s the background… stay tuned for video updates from our training and racing endeavours…
