Last Wednesday saw the club perform very well at the Mayo Championships picking up 8 prizes.
Richie Meaney had a cracker of a race managing to bridge across to Chris Troy early for the two strongmen to stay away for the night. Meanwhile back in the peloton there was a bit of man marking going on with Patjoe O’Connell tailing David Brennan and Sean O’Malley while Keith O’Connell covered Padraig Marrey. David Walshe and Michael Flynn also covered a number of attacks by Western Lakes who were becoming frustrated at having missed the break. Richie took 2nd Overall and with Patjoe finishing 4th Overall (2nd in the A3 category).
While the race for the Overall was all but over riders were watching out for their own category. None more so than David Hanahoe and David O’Malley who took an impressive 1st and 2nd respectively in the A4 category.
On the road Ann Marie Egan and Siobhan O’Malley had a ding dong with the Castlebar ladies, having dropped one of the Castlebar ladies through constant attacks, they went on to take 2nd and 3rd respectively.
The ever impressive Sean Hastings was also in the thick of the action all night and managed to take 1st Club rider finishing in the main bunch.
We narrowly missed out on the team prize and hopefully next year we’ll have a few junior and U16 prizes if we’re allowed!
