Mulroy takes U12 Galway Crit
Congratulations to Westport Covey Youth Racer Keith Mulroy on taking 1st place in last weekends Galway Criterium.
This is his race report:
It was a super evening, there was a festival going on and there was a great buzz, there was loud music and a big BBQ and everyone was having fun, Sean Kelly was there to watch also to add to the pressure ! ! I lined up and had a quick chat to the guy with the mic when he came over to ask me about the race and my plans for it was, I did not say a lot (not like me 😉 ) we took off, the first lap was neutralized, we stuck together for the first lap and I sat in for it to see how the others were, we came around to the start line and then the race started, I went to the front from the gun, I gave it a bit of throttle to see what response I’d get, I felt good and I just gave it a bit of a dig coming out of the bends to keep the pace up, there was a great buzz with the crowd around the course cheering us on,when we came around to start the last lap the bell rang so I knew it was time to turn up the heat at the same time I had to be careful not to do too much damage as there was a race on tomorrow in Westport and I wanted to do well there also so I just had to do enough, I had done the work up to now and I did not want to lose out now so with 250m to go I turned on the gas and I was not stopping till the line, all turned out well in the end and I got what I came for, my two club mates Shane and Orla put in a good effort also so it was a great eve for the Coveys, well done to Galway Bay CC for putting on a great race, thanks to Tony, Anthony, Brendan and to Noel (my dad) for the support when we are training.
Keith continued his winning streak the next day:
On Sunday Lecanvey community group ran an U12,U14 and U16 youth races, I won the U12 race there also so it was a good weekend of racing for me.
