Race Report by Noreen O’Toole
My first all women’s race brought me to Drogheda last Sunday… We had 4 laps of a 14k relatively flat course.
I was pretty nervous at the start line as I didn’t know what to expect, the plan was: I wanted to stay up front as much as possible and pray I wouldn’t be spat out the back at any point. The pace was high from the start with a few girls trying to attack but were brought back every time. So I just got stuck in and stayed in the front for the race taking care to be in the right place for each corner as some attacks were coming as we went round the bends. But again they were brought back.
The last and final lap was the toughest. It was apparent it was going to be a sprint finish, so for the most of it you were just trying to stay put and make sure you were in the right position for it. At 500mtrs to go sure enough, they went and I followed and finished up the top half Tony Walsh and Youths reckon I was 10/11th so I’m happy with that.
3rd round next week in Navan should be another good one..
