Covey Wheelers / Western Lakes League 2011

 Westport Covey Wheeler/ Ballinrobe Western Lakes Club league starts March 24th.

Only a few days to go to the first round of the club league between Western Lakes CC and Westport Covey Wheelers.

The Covies stole the show in 2010 with Francis Sheridan and Chris Kennedy making it a one 2 for the Westport, will 2011 be the year of the Lakers… Well after 4 time trials and 7 handicap road races all will be revealed.

Round 1 is a 5k hill climb up Lally’s Mountain, Tourmakeady.

Sign on for round 1 from 5.30pm at O’Toole’s pub Tourmakeady.

First rider off at 6.30pm sharp.

Entry fee €50 for 11 races seniors, Juniors and Youth fee €25

Or else €10 per race.

Round 2

March 31st, sign on from 6pm at Watson’s Furniture Ballyglass Rd Ballinrobe. First rider off at 7pm for a 16k Time Trial.

Western Lakes Covey Wheelers league rules:

The Western Lakes /Westport Covey Wheelers Club League will start with a 5K hill climb TT On Thursday the 24th of March in Tourmakeady.

The Following Thurs a 16k time trial will be held.

There will be 7 H/cap road races held during the summer and the league will finish with a 16k TT and another 5k Hill climb in September.

There will be 7 H/cap Road races and 4 time trials. The first 2 time trials will let us know what level of fitness you have and will allow for each race to be handicapped. This will give everyone a fair chance of getting some points!

So don’t feel this is only for the racing people!

The league is only opened to current members of the Western Lakes and Westport Covey Wheelers Clubs.

Rules of the Competition 

1    Helmets are compulsory

2    Rules of the road apply

3    Current Western Lakes CC and Westport Covey Wheelers Club members can only participate

4    No tri bars allowed in the Road Races

5    No drafting in the Time Trials

6    Handicap committee decision is final, no debating on the start line

7    Obey the Marshalls

8    €50/25 Entry fee for the 11 races paid before competition starts

9    Or €10 Entry fee per race

10    All monies go towards Prize Fund

Scoring System 

05 pts      To everyone who participates in each individual Road Race

50 pts    1st

47 pts    2nd

45 pts    3rd

43 pts    4th

42 pts    5th

41 pts    6th

40 pts    7th

39 pts    8th

38 pts    9th

37 pts    10th

No points for round 1 or 2 except participation points (5pts per rider)

Team Competition

The first 5 riders from each club across the line get points at each race, the team/club with the highest winning points total at the end of the league wins the team prize.
