Ras na Turcai – Photos & Results
Ras na Turcai Report and Results.
A miserable day did not stop 25 racers from burning off the turkey and showing off the new gear! A mass start but controlled until Louisburgh meant everyone was still in contention as we passed Old Head returning back to Westport. However the bunch was strung out going by Kilsallagh as the pace was drilled into the 50kph zone (handy tailwind!) .
At the head of the race Messers Staunton, McGreevey, O’Connell and Flynn took turns at turning the screw. Declan Maloney was in fine form on his new Giant dropping his underage competitors but Ben Walsh ripped up the road to narrow his losses. By Murrisk Michael Flynn had paid for his efforts and dropped out of overall contention. Noel Mulroy managed to hold onto the lead group while Colm Staunton kept jumping off the front testing the other turkeys! Behind the leaders the chase group lead by Dermot Warde, Declan Maloney, Joe Browne and Stephen Cowley were working well and closing the gap until they suffered the loss of Danny Maloney when he punctured.
Colm Staunton made his move between Murrisk and Gannons garage and he managed to keep the gap until the finish line at the top of the drag by Sean O’Gradys. James McGreevey and Keith O’Connell tried to jump Noel Mulroy coming in the West road but showing great form he came back on and forced a 3 way sprint for 2nd and 3rd place Overall. We’d like to thank all our marshalls, helpers and sponsors.
