Aaron Doherty 2nd in Predator Triathlon Club Youth Championship

Irelands First youth championship was held by the Predator Triathlon Club in and around lough Rae on Sunday. The hotly contested under 12 races comprised of a standard format with a 300 mts swim, 5K bike and a 1500 meter run.

Westport’s Aaron Doherty showed good form in the Swim reaching the Turn at the front of the filed, misjudging the route back to transition seen him drop a number of places exiting the water in seventh position with a good gap to the leaders. A good transition one and a strong bike allowed him to catch and overtake the front runners. He entered transition two marginally ahead of the second placed athlete who had opened a huge gap over the rest of the field.

A poor second transition handed the initative to the following racer. The ensuing battle over the 1500 meter run resulted in a tight sprint finish that saw Aaron finish second Best. An excellent event and a wonderful introduction to the sport of Triathlon.

Congratulations to the Predator Triathlon Club for organising a fantastic event for the young Irish triathletes
